Penalty for non payment£60, reduced to £30 if you pay within 14 days. The amount doubles for each further contravention by the same vehicle in the same zone within 90 days, capped at £480 for a car or light goods vehicle and £960 for a minibus, bus, coach or HGV. Once 90 days pass with no contravention the rate resets to £60.

Glasgow ran the first Scottish LEZ, applying it to local service buses from 31 December 2018 and to every other vehicle from 1 June 2023. Vehicles registered to an address inside the zone had a further year of grace, so residents were only fined from 1 June 2024. The point English drivers miss is that this is not a charging zone: there is no daily fee, so a non-compliant car cannot pay its way in and the first camera capture is a £60 penalty.

What is different about driving in Glasgow?
