What Any Plate Check stores, and what it does not
Any Plate Check does not ask who you are. A registration you check goes to DVSA for its MOT record, which is kept for up to six hours with nothing about who asked. It uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to see how the site is used. Until you accept, Google Analytics sets no cookies and sends only an anonymous page ping, and Clarity does not load at all. Vikas D is the data controller under UK GDPR.

A registration you check
To fetch that vehicle's MOT record from DVSA's MOT History API and show it to you, and to decode the age and registering office from the characters of the mark

How long it is kept
The record DVSA returns is kept on our server against the registration for up to six hours, so a second check of the same car does not ask DVSA again, and deleted within a day. Result pages are never shown to search engines
What it includes
A registration can point at a vehicle keeper, which is why nothing about who asked is stored with it, and it is never sold or passed to anyone but DVSA. Result pages send Google Analytics a page address with the registration removed, and Clarity does not run on them
Your IP address, scrambled, when you run a check
To limit how many registrations one visitor can check in a minute, so nobody can copy the vehicle register through the site

Held only in the server's memory, never written to disk or a log, and no longer used once the minute has passed

The address is turned into a short scrambled code before use, so the address itself is not kept

Event data is kept for no more than 14 months, then deleted by Google

Google receives the page address, a random browser ID held in a cookie, a rough location from your IP address (the full address is not stored), and your device and browser type

Session replays are kept for 30 days and heatmaps for up to 13 months

Clarity records pointer movement, taps and scrolling. It masks the text you type, and it never starts unless you press Accept
Advertising
How adverts are served, and your choices
Any Plate Check is free to use and is paid for by advertising. Adverts are served by Google AdSense.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of other vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at Your Online Choices. Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its adverts in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Advertising cookies are a separate choice from analytics. Before any advert that uses cookies is shown, the cookie message asks for your consent to advertising through a consent platform certified by Google. If you refuse, Google shows adverts that are not based on your browsing, and you can change your answer at any time from Cookie settings at the foot of every page. Adverts never decide what a page says: no advertiser can pay to change a figure, a verdict or a source.

What the site never asks for
Every tool on the site works without an account. The calculators run in your browser. Their inputs are kept in the page address so a result can be shared, and that address is what Google Analytics receives.
The only third parties that load on a page are Google Analytics and, after you accept, Microsoft Clarity. There are no embedded videos, maps or widgets, and the fonts are served from this site.

Where the data sits
In your browser
Two preferences, and cookies you allow
Your light or dark choice and your cookie choice are saved in local storage so the next page remembers them. Neither is an identifier and neither leaves your device. The analytics cookies in the table above are added only if you accept.
On our server
One rented machine
The site runs on a single rented server in the EU. The hosting company is a processor for it. The server keeps only the short-lived technical logs needed to serve pages and fix faults, and they are not used to profile anyone.
International transfers
Google and Microsoft, in the US
Google and Microsoft may process analytics data in the United States. Both are certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which UK law treats as adequate protection for these transfers.
Your rights
How to exercise your UK GDPR rights
You can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of any personal data held about you, and withdraw consent at any time.
The rights themselves
- Access. Ask what is held about you and you will be told. We hold nothing with your name on it; analytics data sits with Google and Microsoft under a random ID that we cannot match to you.
- Erasure. Clearing this site’s cookies removes the analytics IDs from your browser. Ask us and we will also ask Google and Microsoft to delete what they hold, if you can give us the ID.
- Objection. Object to anything that relies on legitimate interests, and it stops unless there is a reason it cannot, which would be explained to you.
- Withdraw consent. Cookie settings at the foot of every page, then Reject. It takes effect at once.
How to exercise them
Email avrdevelopers2017@gmail.com with Privacy in the subject line and say what you want. Requests are acknowledged within five working days and answered within one month, the deadline UK data protection law sets. There is no charge and you do not need to give a reason.
If you are not satisfied
You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for data protection, at any point. GOV.UK publishes the route on its data protection page, and the ICO takes complaints through its public contact form or on 0303 123 1113.
Automated decisions and profiling
There are none. Every result on the site is a calculation about a vehicle or a charge, shown to whoever asked. Analytics reports are read in total; nothing on the site sorts, scores or treats a visitor differently.
Children, security and changes
The site is for people buying, selling or running a vehicle and holds nothing about children. Access to the server is by key, not password. Every page is served over an encrypted connection. When this notice changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top changes and the change is described here.
