How much is car tax in 2026?
The standard annual car tax rate for the 2026/27 tax year is £200 for petrol, diesel, alternative-fuel and electric cars in the post-registration regime. First-year tax varies with carbon dioxide emissions, while older cars use different bands. Check the calculator with the car's registration date and emissions rather than assuming the standard rate is the whole bill.
Is my car ULEZ compliant?
London ULEZ compliance depends on the vehicle's recorded Euro standard, not simply its age. For cars, the published minimum is Euro 4 (petrol) or Euro 6 (diesel). Vehicles meeting the standard avoid the daily charge. Non-compliant vehicles pay £12.50 for each charging day unless an exemption or grace period applies.
What year is my number plate?
The current age identifier is 76. It applies to vehicles first registered september 2026 to february 2027. On a current-format plate, the age characters identify the registration period, not the build date. Private, dateless and Northern Ireland registrations follow different systems, so the mark may not reveal a vehicle's age.

What can I calculate without a registration?
Every calculator on Any Plate Check is keyless. You enter only the facts needed for the question, such as a registration date, emissions, fuel type, journey distance or weekly income. The calculation updates from those inputs, and the assumptions and public sources remain visible beside the result.
Where do the figures come from?
Rates and rules come from named public bodies, including DVLA, GOV.UK, local authorities and official statistical publications. Any Plate Check stores the source and effective date with each dataset, then displays that reference beside the number so you can check the publication for yourself.
How do I know whether a rate is current?
Each source line includes the date its figure took effect or the date the publication was checked. Tax years and changing weekly prices are kept distinct, so an older table is not silently presented as current. The page also shows when its underlying content was last reviewed.
Can a vehicle age confirm clean air compliance?
Age can indicate the emissions standard a vehicle is likely to meet, but it cannot confirm the recorded standard for every model. Use the date-based checker as guidance, then confirm the vehicle with the official zone service before travelling or paying a charge.
What can public motoring data not show?
Public data cannot confirm outstanding finance, an insurance write-off category, a stolen vehicle marker or whether the V5C matches the vehicle. Those checks use commercial, insurer or police information. Any Plate Check identifies that boundary clearly so a public-data answer is not mistaken for a provenance check.
