Assumptions

Caveats

  • These monthly, yearly and saving figures are calculations from the published per-crossing price, not figures published by the operator.
  • Per-class prices come from the official merseyflow PDF 'Toll charge and scheme detail changed on 1 April 2025' (linked from merseyflow.co.uk/toll-charges) and the merseyflow FAQ, both fetched 7 September 2026; the FAQ still quotes £2.40/£7.20/£9.60 so the April 2025 tariff is current. No April 2026 change was announced on merseyflow.co.uk or merseygateway.co.uk. The /debt-recovery page says the penalty 'starts at £25 plus the original toll', which is the discounted 14-day rate.

History

Mersey Gateway Bridge opened in October 2017 and the refurbished Silver Jubilee Bridge (the old Runcorn bridge) became tolled at the same time. Tolls were unchanged for seven and a half years until a 20% increase on 1 April 2025 (approved by Halton Borough Council 10 February 2025), when the PCN rose from £40 to £50 and the charge certificate from £60 to £75. Future changes are to be considered every three years.
