What you can rely on here, and what you cannot.

This site is operated by Vikas Dulgunde as a sole trader in the United Kingdom, trading as Any Plate Check. Using the site means these terms apply to you. If you do not accept them, the remedy is simple: do not use it.

There is no company number to quote, because there is no company. That is stated rather than hidden behind a plural pronoun.

Any Plate Check is a free reader for public vehicle records, plus a set of reference pages built from published government datasets. It shows you what the record says and where the record came from.

It is not a vehicle history provider, not a provenance service, not a valuation service, not a garage, not a broker, and not an agent of DVLA, DVSA or any other public body. Nothing on it is a transaction. Nothing on it is for sale.

Vehicle information on this site originates with the DVSA, the DVLA and other public bodies. We pass it on substantially as we receive it. We do not warrant that it is accurate, complete, current or fit for any particular purpose, and we cannot, because we did not create it and cannot correct it at source.

Records go wrong in ordinary ways. A test can be recorded late. An odometer reading can be mistyped at the test station. A tax record can lag an application by a couple of working days. A recall can be filed against a range of vehicles that includes one already repaired. None of that is exotic, and any of it can make a figure on this site wrong on the day you read it.

If a figure matters to a decision you are about to make, check it against the publisher. The data sources page names the publisher and links the exact dataset for every figure on the site, precisely so that you can.

This is the clause worth reading twice. A check on this site cannot show outstanding finance, an insurance write-off category, whether a vehicle is recorded as stolen, an import or export record, a plate transfer history, or whether the V5C in a seller's hand matches the vehicle in front of you. None of that is public data.

Do not treat a report from this site as evidence that a vehicle is clear of those things. It is not a provenance check, it does not attempt to be one, and a clean report says nothing at all about the four items above. If you need them, buy a provenance check from a provider that holds that data, and check the V5C against the vehicle yourself.

We say this on the home page, on every report and here, because it is the single way a reader could be badly hurt by using this site as intended.

Nothing on this site is legal, financial, insurance, tax, engineering or roadworthiness advice, and no relationship of adviser and client is created by reading it. Reference pages explain how a rule or a charge works in general terms. They cannot account for your vehicle, your address, your use of the vehicle or your circumstances.

Where a decision has money or safety attached to it, take it with somebody qualified who has seen the specifics: a solicitor, an accountant, an insurer, or a mechanic with the car in front of them.

Every calculator on this site works from published rate tables and shows the assumptions it made. Those assumptions are stated so you can see which one does not describe your car, because a figure that fits the average vehicle can be wrong for yours by a wide margin.

Nothing here is a demand, a quotation or an assessment from the body that collects the money. DVLA, HMRC, a police force and a clean air zone operator each work from their own record of your vehicle, and where their figure differs from ours theirs is the one that counts. Treat a result as a way to check a bill you have received, not as the bill itself.

You may use this site for your own purposes, personal or commercial, including checking vehicles you are thinking of buying or already own. What is not acceptable: automated bulk querying of the lookup, scraping pages at a rate a person could not read them, crawling anything robots.txt disallows, circumventing or probing the rate limit, reselling output as your own product, or using the site to assemble a database of vehicles or of the people connected to them.

The rate limit is not there to be awkward. Bulk querying breaches the terms of the government APIs behind the site, and losing that access would take the site down for everybody. It is enforced on a short-lived hash of the network address, as described in the privacy notice.

If you are doing security research and want to report something, email us first and you will get a straight answer. Do not test in a way that degrades the service for other readers.

The site is provided as it is, when it is available. There is no uptime commitment, no service level, and no compensation for downtime, because there is no fee.

The live registration lookup depends on government APIs that we do not control and cannot repair. When they are unavailable, or when access has not yet been granted, the site says so plainly rather than showing you a plausible report assembled from nothing. Reference pages that need no lookup keep working either way.

The underlying government data is Crown copyright and database right, licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. If you want to reuse it, take it from the publisher: the data sources page tells you which publisher and which dataset, and the licence terms are theirs, not ours to vary.

The writing on this site, the design, the code, the calculations and the price ranges we compiled ourselves are not covered by that licence and remain ours. Quote a page with a link and there is no problem. Republishing a page wholesale, or feeding it into a product that presents our work as its own, is not permitted.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from reliance on anything on it. That includes money lost on a vehicle purchase or sale, a charge or penalty you did not expect, a repair bill, lost profit, lost time, or loss arising from a figure that turned out to be wrong or out of date.

We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Nothing in this clause is intended to reach further than the law permits, and if part of it were found to overreach, the rest still stands.

The site is free, and that is relevant to what is reasonable here, but it is not a licence to be careless. Where we get something wrong we fix it and record the fix, which is a commitment set out in the editorial policy.

If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms removes or reduces any right you have under UK consumer law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the regulations that sit alongside it. Where a term here conflicts with a right the law gives you, the law wins.

Your rights against the person selling you a vehicle are also untouched by anything here. A dealer's obligations to you do not shrink because you ran a free check first, and a seller cannot point at a report on this site as evidence they described a vehicle accurately.

These terms may change. The date at the top of the page changes with them, and a change that materially affects what you can rely on will be described rather than slipped in. Continuing to use the site after a change means the new terms apply.

These terms and any dispute about them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you keep the right to bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK where you live.
