Replacing a lost V5C logbook
A replacement usually costs £25. An online or phone application normally arrives within 5 to 7 working days. Use the postal V62 route if keeper or vehicle details need changing.
When the online service works
You must already be the registered keeper, have the vehicle, and keep the recorded name, address and vehicle details unchanged. The service asks for the registration number, vehicle identification number, and the keeper name and postcode on record.
The replacement is posted to the address DVLA already holds. Apply by post when the record itself needs changing or when the vehicle was taken out of the UK without the document.
How long to wait
DVLA says an online or phone replacement usually arrives within 5 to 7 working days. Contact DVLA once 2 weeks have passed. Waiting beyond 6 weeks without reporting the missing delivery can mean paying another £25.
Taxing while the V5C is missing
A current keeper can tax the vehicle while applying for the replacement. At a participating Post Office, use a V62 and any required payment and MOT evidence.
