History
Toll bridge under the Rixton and Warburton Bridge Act 1863, historically 12p collected in cash. After a Transport and Works Act inquiry, the Rixton and Warburton Bridge Order 2024 (made 9 May 2024, in force 30 May 2024) authorised a £1 toll with CPI-minus-1% April adjustments, a two-passage daily cap and unpaid toll charges. Cash booths were replaced by free-flow tolling; the £1 toll was reintroduced from 1am on 25 September 2025 (notice signed 7 Aug 2025), and an enforcement update on unpaid tolls from December 2025 to March 2026 was posted 8 April 2026.
