Caveats

  • These monthly, yearly and saving figures are calculations from the published per-crossing price, not figures published by the operator.
  • Operator site blocks non-browser fetches (403); pages were rendered in a headless browser. The Revision of Tolls Notice is an image (Order 2023 heading, signed for Manchester Ship Canal Company 7/8/25) stating £1.00 per crossing up to £2.00 per calendar day from 1am 25 September 2025. The homepage payment banner refers to crossings since 12:01am Wednesday 5 November (2025).

History

Toll bridge under the Rixton and Warburton Bridge Act 1863, historically 12p collected in cash. After a Transport and Works Act inquiry, the Rixton and Warburton Bridge Order 2024 (made 9 May 2024, in force 30 May 2024) authorised a £1 toll with CPI-minus-1% April adjustments, a two-passage daily cap and unpaid toll charges. Cash booths were replaced by free-flow tolling; the £1 toll was reintroduced from 1am on 25 September 2025 (notice signed 7 Aug 2025), and an enforcement update on unpaid tolls from December 2025 to March 2026 was posted 8 April 2026.
