How and when to pay
- Pay at the booth when crossing. If you cannot pay, take a deferred payment slip: 7 days to pay the toll plus a £2 admin fee (by phone 023 8043 1040). Driving through without paying leads to an invoice from the council.
- Cash at the booth (10p, 20p, 50p, £1, £2 coins only, no change given); contactless card; SmartCities pre-paid card (topped up online); deferred payment slip.

History
Opened 1977, tolled under the Hampshire Act 1983 to manage congestion and fund maintenance. Contactless accepted at booths. The 2025 Toll Order (effective 7 April 2025) revoked the 2023 (No.2) Order; Class 2 standard toll is now £1.20 and Class 4 £40.
