History
Opened by The Queen on 4 September 1964 (main span 1,006m). Tolls funded all maintenance until they were abolished in February 2008 under the Abolition of Bridge Tolls (Scotland) Act 2008, section 1 of which 'removes the ability to make and enforce tolls on the Forth Road Bridge'. FETA ran the bridge until 31 May 2015; Transport Scotland has funded it since June 2015. The Queensferry Crossing (2017) took general traffic and the Forth Road Bridge became a public transport, walking and cycling corridor.
