Bradford's zone opened on 26 September 2022 and is unusually large for a class C. It takes in everything inside the outer ring road, then follows the Aire valley up to Shipley and Saltaire, so a driver heading for Salts Mill is inside the zone without ever reaching the city centre. Bradford is also the only zone where a taxi pays less than a van, £7 against £9, so a private hire driver and a builder with the same engine face different bills.

Where should you park for Bradford city centre?
Choose the destination before the car park. Bradford Council lists nine car parks of its own, among them Jacob's Well, Crown Court on Vicar Lane and Central Library. The private shopping car parks have their own operators and rules. A search result saying 'Bradford parking' does not tell you which organisation will take payment or issue a ticket. Put the actual car park name into your journey plan, then check its entrance board when you arrive.
Jacob's Well and Crown Court each charge £1.50 per hour under the council's published tariff. Central Library has the same hourly rate but a stated maximum stay. Edward Street has stepped charges. These are council prices, not a promise about a nearby private car park.
Bradford says Blue Badge holders can park free in council pay and display bays for the permitted maximum stay. Some disabled bays require a permit, so check the site sign. A badge never authorises stopping at a bus stop, on a dropped kerb or where loading is prohibited.

The arithmetic gives £3 for two hours on the cited council tariff. Staying longer changes the charge; a payment at the wrong site does not cover this car park.
How much is a Bradford parking ticket and how do you challenge it?
Bradford issues higher level and lower level parking PCNs. The full amounts are £70 and £50. Paying within 14 days reduces them to £35 and £25. Read the contravention code on the notice rather than assuming every parking mistake attracts the same amount. The council says to wait for its payment system to load a new notice before trying online, and asks for the registration and BQ reference.
A rejected informal challenge is not the end of the process. If you still contest the PCN, wait for the Notice to Owner addressed to the registered keeper, make formal representations and keep copies. The independent Traffic Penalty Tribunal hears appeals after a council rejection. Ignoring the paperwork lets the penalty increase and eventually brings recovery action. Tell the council promptly if you have moved and make sure the vehicle keeper address is correct with DVLA.

Which Bradford bus lanes and turns catch unfamiliar drivers?
Bradford has ordinary timed bus lanes, bus gates and bus-only roads. They do not all have the same hours. On the A650 at Nab Wood, the council lists a weekday morning restriction, while other A650 camera sites cover the weekday afternoon peak. Central sites such as Hall Ings at Jacobs Well and the Hall Ings junction with George Street are listed as operating at all hours. Read the plate for the approach you are actually using, not a rule remembered from another road.
The bus lane camera PCN is £70, falling to £35 for payment within 21 days. Moving traffic enforcement is a separate camera scheme. Bradford's first named sites are the banned right turn at Shipley Airedale Road and Leeds Road, and the yellow box at Godwin Street and Sunbridge Road, both switched on from 17 August 2026. The council says each newly activated site begins with a six-month warning period for first-time offenders, followed by a £70 PCN, discounted to £35 within 21 days. Do not assume a warning will follow a repeat visit.

Does Bradford's Clean Air Zone charge your vehicle?
Bradford's Clean Air Zone covers the outer ring road and stretches up the Aire valley through Shipley to Saltaire, so a destination outside the city centre can still fall inside it. Private cars and motorcycles pay no zone charge; the published schedule charges a non-compliant light goods vehicle £9 a day and a non-compliant taxi or private hire vehicle £7. Check the vehicle on the official service before travelling because its recorded class, not the job you are doing, determines whether a charge applies.
Can you leave the car at Apperley Bridge and take the train?
Apperley Bridge is a rail parking option on the Bradford Forster Square route. Northern lists a free station car park with 98 spaces, including accessible spaces. It is at BD10 0FD, away from the most crowded central streets. The station page lists Bradford Forster Square among its routes, but train fares and service patterns must be checked for the specific day. Free parking does not make the onward rail trip free.

How do Bradford resident and visitor parking permits work?
A Bradford resident permit belongs to a named parking scheme, not to the whole district. The council introduced annual charges for resident and visitor permits and publishes £35 for each. Its virtual permit system links permission to a registration number. The charges started on 10 October 2024. A resident moving between schemes cannot use the old permit in a new zone merely because the address remains in Bradford. Check the scheme boundary and renew before the previous permission expires.

Where can you charge an electric car in Bradford?
Bradford's council page identifies two named public schemes. Blink EB-Go! fast chargers serve locations including Crown Court car park, Bute Street in Bolton Woods and Radwell Drive. The GeniePoint rapid network includes Vicar Lane, Rawson Road, Orange Street and Exhibition Road in Saltaire. These are different providers, so check the operator shown on the unit and its live status before starting a session. A council parking charge may still apply while the car occupies a charging bay.
